Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is this?

A. House of the Dragon recaps for the second season, which runs from June 16 - August 4. After that, it can be recaps of whatever my subscribers and I decide.

Q. Wait, who are you again?

A. I used to be an editor at Wired and The Verge; I wrote Game of Thrones recaps for Wired that were unexpectedly popular and a lot of fun for me; I did the GoT podcast Citadel Dropouts with Spencer Ackerman; I've done a lot of other stuff too.

Q. You haven't been online much for a while. What have you been up to?

A.

Q. You didn't recap the first season of House of the Dragon.

A. Not a question, but so true. If people like this enough, there's nothing stopping me from going back to recap the first season. Or anything. Rings of Power, YellowstoneIndustryWalking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol. I could even recap something iconic, like Battlestar Galactica (2004). Many things are possible if they are sufficiently desired.

Q. Are you going to compare House of the Dragon with the original books?

A. Sure, why not. My original GoT recaps discussed the differences with the books, at least till the show ran out of track and went completely off the rails. I think it's interesting to observe the changes that get made, and why – how it adds to the retelling of these constructed legends, or not. GoT, in all its iterations, is a story about stories; how it tells itself matters a great deal.

Q. Do I have to pay for this?

A. It'd be nice. It'll mean you get to read the recaps as soon as they exist, instead of later. If enough people find this entertaining and support it, I will almost certainly do more recaps, and I will take requests. This is only fun for me if it is fun for other people, and the time I can devote to it will likely depend on whether people like it enough to chip in. Spice must flow.

Q. You screwed something up!

A. Sorry about that. I put this entire page and subscription format together in a day, so if I messed something up I will try to fix it. This is the first time I've ever done anything like this, but I'll always do my best to be fair and fix mistakes. Come to me in good faith, and I shall respond in good faith.

Q. Why aren't you writing these for a bigger platform?

A. I don't want to. I want to write for people who want to read what I write. That's it, in the purest sense. I also miss writing things and having them immediately become real, instead of waiting years to find out if they will be real! Creative work is tough that way. I haven't used this muscle in a while, and I'm curious to see what comes out of my head. For better or worse, I will have no editor and no one will be able to stop me. Let's see what happens.
